Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has fundamentally transformed how humans understand relationships, form communities, construct identity, and express spiritual experiences. This transformation places the church at a crossroads between maintaining traditional ecclesiological patterns or conducting critical contextual reflection on changing times. The metaphor of the body of Christ, which in Pauline theology encompasses relational, participatory, and ethical dimensions shaping a social and communal ecclesiology, has often been reduced to an internal doctrinal spiritual symbol detached from social realities and technological developments. This study aims to reconstruct the body of Christ as a socio-ecclesiological metaphor in the digital era to produce transformative church praxis for the church in Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative-theological reflective approach with a conceptual analysis model, integrating biblical theology, systematic theology, and digital contextual theology through critical dialogue across theological disciplines. The findings indicate that the body of Christ must be understood as a living social-incarnational reality that calls the Indonesian church to a transformative presence amid social fragmentation, religious pluralism, and digital technological disruption. Analysis of 1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, and Ephesians 4 reveals that this metaphor contains dimensions of social criticism, participatory ethics, and a call toward communal maturity that transcends individualistic and institutional understandings. The reconstruction of this metaphor encourages the Indonesian church to move beyond narrow institutional understanding and embody its calling as an agent of social transformation faithful to the missio Dei, manifesting love, justice, and hope in the midst of a pluralistic and digitalized society. This study contributes to contextual theology and digital ecclesiology by formulating an integrative framework that unites biblical theology, systematic theology, and digital contextual theology, positioning the body of Christ as both a normative theological concept and an ethical-ecclesiological framework that restructures church praxis toward solidarity, participation, and missional orientation.
