Peer Reviewer Process
Every published content under “Articles” section is subject for peer review. Published contents under “Editorial” section are not peer-reviewed.
Peer review in the journal is conducted by external reviewers. They were selected based on their expertise and latest publications in the related topics of submitted manuscripts. At least two reviewers are selected for each submission. The journal didn’t ask author(s) for recommended reviewers to avoid any misconduct in peer review process. At some point, editorial board members can also be selected as reviewers of a manuscript. List of reviewers of each edition is provided in published issue and list of all reviewers is available at https://indonesiastt.ac.id/journal/index.php/ijr/
Following A Standard Terminology for Peer Review, type of peer review process in the journal can be summarized as follows:
Identity Transparency: Double Anonymized
Reviewer identity is not made visible to author, author identity is not made visible to reviewer, reviewer and author identity is visible to (decision-making) editor.
Reviewer Interacts with: Editor
Communication between editor and reviewer (traditional model). Also known as ‘independent review’. Identities can be anonymized or visible.
Review Information Published: Review Reports
Full content of the reviewer reports is published. At this moment, the journal only published review reports for accepted manuscripts from Vol. 21, No. 1, Agustus 2021.
Post Publication Commenting: Open
Commenting open to anybody. Can be anonymous, require signing in and/or registration (e.g. via ORCID). At this moment, commenting can be sent through email to editor. In the future, a “Comments” section may be prepared for this purpose.
All manuscripts submitted to the Indonesian Journal of Religious (IJR) undergo a rigorous editorial and peer-review process to ensure academic quality, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope. The process consists of eight (8) main stages as follows:
1. Initial Screening: The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with members of the Editorial Board, conducts an initial assessment of the submitted manuscript. At this stage, the manuscript is evaluated based on:
-
Relevance to the aims and scope of IJR;
-
Compliance with the journal’s submission guidelines;
-
Similarity check results, where manuscripts containing more than 20% textual similarity or more than 30% AI-generated content will be rejected; and
-
Overall academic quality and originality.
Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria will be rejected without external review.
2. Peer Reviewing: Manuscripts that pass the screening stage are subjected to a double-blind peer review process. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers who:
-
Are affiliated with different institutions from each other; and
-
Have no institutional affiliation with the author(s).
Reviewers are appointed by the Editor-in-Chief with support from the Editorial Board, based on their expertise and research background relevant to the manuscript.
3. Notification of Peer Review Results: After the peer-review process is completed, the author(s) will receive a formal notification containing:
-
The editorial decision; and
-
Detailed comments and recommendations from the reviewers and editors.
The possible decisions at this stage are: Revise or Reject.
4. Revision Stage: For manuscripts receiving a Revise decision, the author(s) are required to:
-
Revise the manuscript in accordance with reviewers’ and editors’ comments; and
-
Submit a revised version accompanied by a response-to-reviewers document explaining the changes made.
Authors are given one (1) month to complete the revision.
In cases of major revision, the revised manuscript may be returned to one or two reviewers for further evaluation, based on the Editorial Team’s decision.
5. Language and References Improvement: Once a manuscript is accepted in substance, the author(s) must: (a) Ensure the manuscript has been proofread by a qualified native English speaker or a professional language editing service; and (b) Carefully check all in-text citations and reference lists to ensure full compliance with the APA referencing style.
6. Official Acceptance: The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding acceptance after reviewing the revised manuscript and confirming that all academic, linguistic, and technical requirements have been fulfilled.
7. Copy Editing: Accepted manuscripts proceed to the copy-editing stage, which includes: (a) Artworking: Formatting the manuscript according to the journal’s layout and style; (b) Proofreading and final correction: The author(s) will be asked to review the formatted proof. At this stage, content revisions are no longer permitted, and only minor typographical corrections may be made.
8. Online Publication: The final version of the manuscript is published on the official IJR website and becomes accessible to the public.
Please note that the Editorial Team reserves the full authority to determine the issue in which an accepted manuscript will be published. This decision is made based on editorial considerations, including but not limited to the balanced distribution of research topics, institutional affiliations, and the geographical representation of authors. Accordingly, the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) issued by the journal confirms the acceptance status of the manuscript but does not specify the publication date or the issue number.
